American Graduate: United Way, Reading Pals

Read to a child.

You’re likely to enjoy it. He’s likely to graduate.

Children who are read to are more likely to become good readers. And children who read at grade level by the fourth grade are four times more likely to graduate from high school. High school graduates earn more, make better choices, use fewer social services and stay out of trouble.

Become a ReadingPal. The Children’s Movement and United Way, in conjunction with local and statewide partners and Carol and Barney Barnett, are launching a three-year initiative focused on engaging, training and deploying volunteer “reading pals” in ten Florida regions to increase the number of students who are reading at grade level by the end of third grade.

When you sign up, you’ll attend a two-hour training session and commit to an hour a week. Background checks will be performed.

Thank you for your interest in becoming a ReadingPal. Please fill out the information below and someone will contact you shortly.
